Gator - Are They Targeting Your Site With Ads?
By Jerry West
Updated on May 26, 2003
Gator/GAIN, a media company that often uses unscrupolus
tactics to get users to download their software so they can server ads
based on the websites they visit.
According to Gator's website, they realize that not
every user who downloads their software is aware of it. It states: "Gator
delivers pop-up and pop-under ads to millions of people who presumably
agree to receive ads."
The keyword there is presumably.
Now, Gator may even target your site for their ad network.
At this time there isn't an option on their site to have your site removed
from their ad targeting. However, if your site is being targeted, it is
strongly suggested that you contact them to request a "cease and
distist" order. If they ignore you, have your attorney sent a letter.
It is unethical for a corporation to serve ads on your
site without your permission.
