There are a few myths that need to be cleared up regarding affiliate marketing.

1. There is no "Get Rich Quick" affiliate program that works. Successful affiliates work hard.at discovering their niches and creating effective landing pages to convert qualified traffic.
   
2. Beware of Hype. Sales letters are designed to convince you to buy a product that you probably don't need.
   
3. Beware of the "Cookie Washer". Most companies will entice you with large commissions, but their websites often have "cookie washers" in place so when you sent a visitor, your cookie is "washed" and if the visitor that you sent buys, you DON'T get a commission.
   
4. Beware of High Commission Rates. Often, you will be performing very well for a publisher, and a competitor calls you or emails you offering a 10-20% higher commission if you switch and sell their product. The problem is, the new site doesn't convert as well as the one you were with previously. I will always prefer 10% commission on $10,000 in sales, than 25% commission on $1,000 in sales.
